Majorelle Blue is a very intense, clear blue pigment inspired by the lapis blue used in antiquity. Lapis. a semiprecious stone was so expensive that most artists were unable to purchase it to make their pigments. In 1924 French artist Jacques Majorelle inspired by the beautiful blue Moroccan textiles and adobes came up with a formula obtaining this same blue pigment for oil paints, to decorate fountains, pathways and details throughout his "Majorelle Garden" in Marrakech, Morocco.
